PK-12 Working from Home Blog

AASPA Blog,

As the workforce and educational institutions prepare for more changes due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), schools can work to put practical measures in place to reduce exposure to our students, staff and communities. One of these measures suggested includes allowing employees to telecommute. While remote work isn’t always possible for all PK-12 employees there are some considerations we can explore.

Below are a list of Telecommuting Policies shared by AASPA members. These policies are not designed for you to use, but serve as talking points with your administrators, boards and school attorneys.

There are technology and security compliance considerations employers must keep in mind to support the remote workers while still conducting business as usual.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, schools should continue to collaborate, share information and review plans with local health officials to help protect the whole school community. School plans should be designed to minimize disruption to teaching and learning and protect students and staff from social stigma and discrimination.

Always remember to consult your school attorney on any changes to school policy and communication.
