How to Train Substitute Teachers: In-Person or Online

Substitute teachers can cause a major disruption for students, but with a few key skills, substitute teachers can demonstrate that they are a professional, and students can then focus on what their teacher wants them to learn. These skills start even before the substitute teacher enters the classroom. After identifying the skills substitute teachers need, how do we best train them? Is it better to teach substitute teachers online? Or live in-person? We will talk through the options and how to optimize live and online training. At STEDI.org, we love working to build the skill level of the substitute teacher through training, and we're eager to share with you what we've learned over the last thirty years.
