Courageous Conversations About Race - A DEI Book Study

February 21, 2024 | 2:00pm - 3:00pm CST

Book Written By: Glenn Singleton & Curtis Linton

Book Study Facilitated By: Shon Smith, Director of Educational Services, Nordonia Public Schools, Northfield, OH

AASPA's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee is excited to share the 2024 book study and invites all AASPA members to participate. This book study will take place Wednesday, February 21 at 2:00pm CST and will be on the book Courageous Conversations About Race by Glenn E. Singleton & Curtis Linton. We are excited to select this publication and we encourage you to join us.

In this book study we will discuss the following questions:
  • What is it that educators should know and be able to do to narrow the racial achievement gap?
  • How will educators know when they are experiencing success in their efforts to narrow the racial achievement gap?
  • What do educators do as they discover what they don’t yet know and are not yet able to do to eliminate the racial achievement gap?
This book examines the achievement gap through the prism of race; this comprehensive text explains the need for candid, courageous conversations about race so that educators may understand why performance inequity persists and learn how they can develop a curriculum that promotes true academic parity. To help guide policy analysis and instructional reform, the authors present a system-wide plan for transforming schools and districts.
