Advanced AI is designed to move PK–12 leaders and administrators beyond basic AI awareness into responsible, applied use of artificial intelligence. The course emphasizes workflow design, professional judgment, governance, and real-world application in administrative and leadership contexts.
Rather than focusing on tools alone, the course prepares participants to make informed decisions about when, how, and whether AI should be used in PK–12 operations. Learners will focus on prompt design and output verification, image and video generation, data analysis, and risk mitigation.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Apply AI tools to create high-quality text, image, and video content for PK–12 operations
- Implement AI-driven workflows that improve efficiency across administrative and leadership functions
- Write effective, role-specific prompts and refine outputs using iterative techniques
- Use AI responsibly by protecting privacy, managing data risks, and ensuring copyright compliance
- Evaluate AI-generated content for accuracy, bias, and alignment with district standards
- Integrate AI into human capital, communications, operations, and leadership tasks to enhance outcomes
- Demonstrate human-in-the-loop judgment when applying AI to professional decisions

- International Society for Technology in Education Artificial Intelligence (AI) Framework for Education: Supports responsible and effective AI integration in education through guidance on digital fluency, ethical AI use, leadership readiness, communication, systems thinking, and future-ready learning practices for educators and organizations. The framework emphasizes human-centered AI implementation, transparency, critical evaluation of AI outputs, and organizational readiness for emerging technologies.

Module 1 – Advanced Prompting & Interaction Strategies (Asynchronous)
Introduces prompting foundations and explores research-backed prompting techniques so participants can diagnose and improve AI outputs rather than rely on trial and error.
Topics:
- The anatomy of a good prompt: role, task, context, format, constraints
- Introduction to different types of AI models (e.g., large language models)
- Zero-shot vs. few-shot prompting
- Chain-of-thought prompting, Chain-of-Verification (CoVe)
- Using personas and scenarios in prompts
- Techniques for refining and iterating on AI outputs
- Fact-checking and human-in-the-loop review practices
Module 2 – AI Opportunity Mapping + Risk Assessment (Live Session 1)
Focuses on identifying appropriate, high-impact AI use cases within PK–12 administrative and leadership settings while evaluating potential operational, ethical, and reputational risks associated with implementation.
Topics:
- Framework for identifying low-risk, high-impact AI use cases in PK–12 administration
- Evaluating operational efficiency opportunities using AI
- Understanding when AI should and should not be used
- Evaluating AI workflows based on risk, efficiency, and oversight needs
Module 3 – Prompt Debugging, AI Limitations, and Manipulation Risks (Asynchronous)
Focuses on strengthening prompt quality by helping participants identify, evaluate, and improve ineffective AI prompts and outputs while understanding common AI limitations and reliability risks.

- Common prompting pitfalls and how to avoid them

- Assessing results for precision, reliability, and institutional relevance
- Types of LLM attacks/manipulation (ex. jailbreaking, prompt injection attack)
Module 4 – AI Governance: Data Security, Privacy, Synthetic Media, & Reputational Risk (Asynchronous & Live Session 2)
Establishes non-negotiable guardrails related to FERPA, privacy, data protection, and safe AI use. Prepares participants to recognize and respond to risks associated with AI-generated media and misinformation, emphasizing transparency and trust.

- Creating a district-level AI acceptable use policy
- Understanding AI “memory” features and best practices for using AI tools

Module 5 – Visual Generation & Communication (Live Session 3)
Provides hands-on experience using AI for communication while evaluating clarity, accessibility, and appropriateness.

- Best practices for creating accessible AI-generated content
- Ensuring brand consistency in AI-generated visuals
Module 6 — Building Your AI-Powered Productivity System (Asynchronous)
Focuses on moving from one-off AI use to repeatable, role-specific productivity workflows, enabling participants to use AI consistently and efficiently in daily administrative work.

Module 7 — Team Workflow Design Sprint (Live Session 4)
Serves as the capstone experience. Participants collaboratively design and evaluate an AI-assisted PK–12 administrative workflow using prompting, governance, workflow mapping, and human-in-the-loop decision-making principles.

Earn a Micro-Credential
Upon completion of content and section quizzes, you will receive an "Advanced AI" micro-credential badge from the Experience Management Institute to utilize on your social media platforms, AASPA profile, and resume. This micro-credential is worth 10 hours of continuing education credit towards pHCLE or eHCLE recertification, or other certification programs you may be a part of!
