POSITION: High School Principal

LOCATION: North Central High School

CALENDAR LENGTH: 260 days (20 days paid vacation)

SALARY: $140,395

Required Certifications:

Active Indiana Building Level Administrator License

Preferred Experience

3 plus years of large secondary school administrative experience

3 plus years of urban secondary school administrative experience

5 plus years of secondary school teaching experience


The Metropolitan School District of Washington Township (MSDWT) is located in the northern section of Indianapolis, Indiana and Marion County. Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The North Central High School Principal manages and supervises the staff of North Central High School to ensure that students are instructed and supported in a safe learning environment. They work closely with the high school associate principal and assistant principals to lead and assist school staff and to optimize communication between school leaders and teachers, parents, and other districts and schools. They guide instructional practices, facilitate meetings, develop and review curriculum programs, observe staff, and assume primary responsibility for financial resource management.

● Education management support: Support the management of an education institution by directly assisting in the managerial duties or by providing information and guidance from your area of expertise to simplify the managerial tasks.

● Curriculum standards: Experience with the governmental policies concerning educational curricula and the 8approved curricula from specific educational institutions.

● Assessment processes: Familiarity with various evaluation techniques, theories, and tools applicable in the assessment of students, participants in a program, and employees. Different assessment strategies such as initial, formative, summative and self-assessment are used for varying purposes.

● Knowledge of professional learning communities and their role in using assessments to inform instruction.

● Understanding of Equity: Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as the understanding of the need for equitable practices in all classrooms and spaces.

● Project management: Knowledge of project management and the activities which comprise this area. Know the variables implied in project management such as time, resources, requirements, deadlines, and responding to unexpected events.

● Learning technologies: Experience with current technologies and channels, and how to incorporate them to enhance learning.

● Curriculum objectives: Familiarity with the goals identified in curricula and defined learning outcomes.

Example Activities:

  • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of school improvement efforts related to student academic achievement, including reducing the disproportional gap
  • Engages families and community partners in school mission and vision
  • Manages school financial, physical, and personnel resources to support optimal instruction
  • Leads equity work & social emotional learning (allocating resources, leading professional development)
  • Provides teachers feedback on instruction by conducting formal and informal evaluations
  • Develops and implements a system of school-wide supports to meet the unique needs of various learners
  • Supervises and facilitates daily operations of the school
  • Coaches and evaluates all school staff
  • Serves as lead investigator for human resources issues and employee discipline
  • Ensures that the school program is compatible with the legal, financial, and organizational structure of the school system
  • Administers strategies to recruit and retain staff
  • Handles public relations and media inquiries
  • Meets routinely with members of the Washington Township Education Association
  • Analyzes feedback from survey data to develop responses to the needs of students and families
  • Meets routinely with PTO representatives
  • Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
  • Other duties as assigned
