Job Description 

BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: Develop and implement short and long range equity goals that support the District’s strategic plan, mission, and vision while specifically promoting a climate of racial and educational equity for all. Collaboratively develop institutional policies, practices, and programs that increase racial literacy and cultural responsiveness among our staff and our students that respects, values, and responds to the needs of the greater community. Lead the District’s efforts and sustain a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion for all students by addressing systemic inequities, in order to narrow the gaps between highest and lowest achievement categories. Plan, organize, and direct initiatives related to diversity, equity and outreach; provide leadership to increase effectiveness in promoting equity and inclusion District-wide; develop and implement the District’s equity plan, and serve as the District’s leader for diversity, equity and inclusion goals.

Management of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:  Assume a leadership role for building and fostering diversity, equity and inclusion, social justice, anti-racism, anti- discrimination, restoration, reconciliation, and accessibility efforts within the District and community.  Lead the Equity Task Force and other parent/community components of the District’s Equity Plan.  Facilitate the creation of campus e-Teams and give guidance on appropriate work to be done by the teams.  Provide leadership for the implementation of the equity plan, including regular reports on progress towards goals.  Lead and support highly visible educational events and activities to foster a movement and awareness for cultural competency in terms of diversity, equity and inclusion.  Recognize, create and implement plan to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the District and community.  Develop, organize and implement professional learning opportunities for District, campus, program staff and the community with an emphasis on racial and equity awareness.  Support the District’s employee recruitment plan to attract a more diverse workforce and talent pool.  Assist the Human Resource Services department with ensuring the District’s hiring practices are free of implicit bias in attracting, screening, and interviewing processes.  Examine and shift the District to a more inclusive culture that successfully attracts and retains a diverse staff.  Support and guide the development of employee affinity groups to provide collegial support among individuals who share a particular background, interest, or issue to support attraction and retention of staff.  Research and identify external trends promoting diversity, equity, and inclusionary training.  Provide coordination, consultation and assistance to the Superintendent and executive leadership team on diversity, equity, and inclusion matters related to students, staff, and parents.  Promote and implement District and site-based approaches to community access and engagement.  Develop and implement systems and procedures to address the needs of culturally and linguistically-diverse students, parents, and families.  Implement and provide ongoing review of the compliance of federal, state, and District policies impacting diversity, equity and inclusion.  Evaluate and provide ongoing review of District policies.  Prepare annual operating budget recommendation for department and implement and monitor assigned budgets. Human Resources Management:  Provide administrative direction and leadership to assigned staff for the operational, financial, and personnel resources to effectively support District goals.  Supervise, evaluate performance, and lead the recruitment, hire, and placement of assigned staff.  Recognize exemplary performance of assigned staff.  Ensure a complete, timely, and equitable investigation of all complaints against any assigned staff. Organization Improvement:  Ensure partnership of the Equity Office with all departments of the District to ensure equitable practices throughout the system.  Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to design, implement, refine, and evaluate assigned programs in order to continuously improve the campus/department.  Develop and lead the talent development process to build internal capacity for administrative personnel.  Assist the Curriculum Department and campuses to evaluate curriculum and instructional resources for biases and create alternatives. Professional Growth and Development:  Guide assigned staff in the planning and implementation of professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District performance.  Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District performance. School/Community Relations:  Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District’s initiatives. Organization Morale:  Foster collegiality and team building among department employees; encourage active involvement in the decision- making process by all department employees; communicate expectations for high-level performance to staff; recognize staff achievements; and ensure effective and quick resolution of conflicts among department employees.  Facilitate communication and collaboration among assigned department personnel and campus administrators to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction. Other Responsibilities:  Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.  Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:  Knowledge of acceptable public education or corporate leadership principles and techniques.  Knowledge of acceptable academic practices and principles.  Knowledge of acceptable human resource methods and practices; human resource budgeting principles and practices; federal and state labor standards, guidelines and regulations; acceptable supervisory practices; state and federal rules and regulations.  Knowledge of district policies and procedures.  Skill in leading and responding to issues and trends related to educational equity, social justice and human rights within the community and workplace.  Skill in leading efforts to design, implement, measure, and improve programs and services.  Skill in collaborating with and achieving actionable results through others and possess exceptional judgment and communications skills.  Skill in implementing communication and collaboration between and among various areas of the organization to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction.  Skill in delivery of services throughout the district, assigned area, and customers.  Skill in implementing integration and interaction of vertical and horizontal systems to guarantee the support of high student achievement and customer satisfaction.  Skill in planning and directing the work of subordinates.  Skill in researching and analyzing data and reports.  Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.  Ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and interact with all levels of the organization and with external constituents  Ability to be a collaborator and a convener, to work with judiciousness and diplomacy; and the capacity to build bridges and work toward consensus.  Ability to develop and implement long-range plans.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university and five years of related experience, including two years in a supervisor capacity.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:  Maintain emotional control under stress.  Work with frequent interruptions.  Use computer for prolonged period resulting in repetitive hand motions.  Sit for extended periods of time.  Travel district-wide on a frequent basis and statewide occasionally.  Work extended and irregular hours.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:  Work is normally performed in a typical interior office or school setting with little or no exposure to physical risk.
