Essentials for Principals: Effective Teacher Observations
Item # 115

While a principal has many roles, arguable one of their most important roles is as an instructional leader, one who integrates teacher observation and teacher development. Principals are key to developing and nurturing school cultures where teachers view themselves as life-long learners and integrate their learning into their instructional practices.
This Essentials was developed to help principals consider a new approach that integrates observation and evaluation with teacher development. Topics discussed include characteristics of effective teaching and a research-based overview of what good teaching looks like, adult learning and teacher development, and situational models for both principal leadership and teacher observation.
